Palermo Airport (PMO)
Airport Information
(Punta Raisi, Sicily, Italy)
Located on the northern coast of Sicily, Palermo International Airport (PMO) is a well-equipped, modern transportation hub providing one of the main gateways to the island. Italy's national airline Alitalia operates extensive routes to and from Palermo, while many other smaller budget airlines, such as Ryanair and TUfly, are also well represented. All international and domestic flights are handled by the airport's single terminal.
Palermo International Airport is situated in Punta Raisi and on the coastline, next to Cinisi, Pozzillo, Terrasini and Torre Muzza, lying around 32 km / 20 miles to the north-west of Palermo, Sicily's capital city. Alternative names for the airport include Punta Raisi and Falcone-Borsellino.
Passengers travelling to Palermo International Airport can ride the 32-km / 20-mile route from the city centre by shuttle bus every 20 minutes, along the A29 motorway. Airport buses not only link central Palermo, but also run to Agrigento, Porto Empedocle, Sciacca and Ribera. Alternatively, there are Trinacria Express trains and bus shuttles running throughout the day between the Central Train Station and the airport.
Visitors who prefer to self-drive can take advantage of the many hire companies available at the airport, while those not wishing to brave the Palermo traffic can catch a taxi from outside the Arrivals Hall. Nearby places of interest close to Palermo Airport and on the north-westerly side of Sicily include Bagheria, Marsala, Trapani and the Alcamo Marina.
